Sekko Daigo sensei

Sekko Daigo sensei, one of Japan's greatest shodo (calligraphy) masters, is the most qualified and talented shodo artist in all of North America. Sekko's outstanding talents are recognized throughout Japan, and she is decorated with numerous prestigious awards from Japanese shodo art societies.

Sekko studied under one of Japan's supreme masters, Sekijyo Kaneda sensei (warning: link in Japanese), often referred to as the "Ink Magician." She proudly serves as one of his council members.

Background

  1. 1970 Began the quest for the ultimate beauty of Japanese art form, shodo "the way of life" at the Academy of All Japan Calligraphic Art
  2. 1974 Earned mastership. Established the Sekko Calligraphy Art School
  3. 1980 Earned professorship from the Academy of All Japan Calligraphic Art
  4. 1981 Became a member of council at the Academy of Japan Calligraphic Art
  5. 1982 Became a member of selecting committee the Academy of Japan Calligraphic Art
  6. 1992 Migrated to Portland, Oregon
    Volunteer taught shodo for Japanese magnet program at Richmond Elementary School in Portland, Oregon
  7. 1993 Received Certificate of Appreciation from the principal of Richmond Elementary School
  8. 1994 Received Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Portland mayoral office
    Local Public Educational Organization featured Sekko's work and teaching on television
    Held personal exhibition at a gallery in Portland, Oregon
  9. 2006 Began teaching calligraphy as a part of curriculum at Richmond Elementary School in Portland, Oregon
  10. 2007 Opened the Sekko Gallery at Bush Garden Restaurant in Portland, Oregon
